José Unda

José Unda is a celebrated abstract artist from Quito Ecuador, who lives in Toronto (Canada) and Quito (Ecuador). I always knew I wanted to be an artist. At age 13, with the encouragement of my Grandmother I started on this journey. Whereas everyone else thought I would fail, she pushed me from my start to exhibiting at Quito’s version of the National Gallery of Ottawa FOUR times, and exhibiting over 60 times in 10 different countries. I stayed relevant by doing one of a Kind abstract.

My medium of preference is painting with mixed media on canvas and paper using acrylics, oils, pastels and pencils. What makes my work very UNIQUE is that I stopped using BRUSHES to paint in the 90’s. I created my own set of tools over the last 30+ years to apply the paint giving it a very detailed feel. Lastly, I paint by series, giving several original artworks a singular name.
